The client seeks a strategic thinker and visionary leader to serve as its next Executive Director. The Executive Director will engage and inspire the client’s board, staff, and communities through exhibits and programming grounded in its American art collection. The role will lead collections and exhibition content, programming, talent and staffing, education and community engagement, and outreach, while also overseeing general operational, administrative, and financial management. The Executive Director will promote the development and execution of a strategic plan, diversify revenue sources, build collaborative partnerships, and strengthen the client’s visibility and connections within its communities.

Qualifications and competencies include a proven record of leadership in an art gallery or museum, initiative, and creative problem-solving; deep knowledge of art and art museum practices and standards; and the ability to create and articulate a compelling future while developing long-term plans, anticipating trends, and positioning the institution for success. The candidate should have experience leading or delegating financial and endowment management, fundraising, community relations, marketing, and board development for a nonprofit museum or comparable organization, along with a strong commitment to collections stewardship, ethical financial practices, and public trust. They will be a motivating manager who develops high-performing teams, sets clear goals and success metrics, and cultivates transparency, accountability, collegiality, and collaboration, with demonstrated ability to secure major gifts and build strong relationships with donors, foundations, board members, community leaders, artists, and cultural peers.
