The client seeks a relational, strategic, mission-centered Executive Director to lead conservation and natural-resource work while strengthening relationship-based fundraising. The role emphasizes strong communication and storytelling, nonprofit management judgment, and the ability to build trust across a distinctive residential, philanthropic, educational, and conservation ecosystem. The Executive Director works with the Board of Directors and leads a small staff team supporting conservation education, animal ambassador care, community programming, volunteer engagement, administration, and development support, along with day-to-day operations.
The Executive Director will help clarify the organization’s next-stage priorities and operating model by working with the Board to define realistic near-term and long-term priorities and to translate the mission into strategies that connect land stewardship, resident engagement, community education, and public benefit. The position also requires balancing many worthy opportunities against available staff capacity, funding, and partner support. This leadership includes establishing a compelling, donor-facing approach that explains the organization’s work, why it matters, how it is funded, and how donors can make a difference.
Key responsibilities include leading major donor engagement in partnership with the Board and development-related leaders, strengthening fundraising systems such as event strategy, gift tracking, donor stewardship practices, grant opportunities, and long-term resource planning. The Executive Director will serve as a visible, approachable ambassador through tours, talks, donor conversations, orientations, and community gatherings, ensuring warm, clear, responsive communication and follow-through across residents, donors, staff, volunteers, and partners. Additional duties include guiding a balanced program strategy covering resident-facing experiences, external education, land stewardship, conservation leadership, and community outreach, while supporting staff and partners in translating science, ecology, and stewardship into accessible learning experiences that inspire action.
