The client seeks a vibrant, strategic, and engaging Executive Director to lead a major cultural institution with a strong community presence and a national arts reputation. The role is responsible for advancing the museum’s mission to offer compelling expressions of visual culture through multiple buildings and distinct collections spanning art, history, and architecture. The Executive Director will provide leadership that strengthens the organization’s role as a dynamic cultural center for people of all ages and backgrounds.
The Executive Director will build on the organization’s legacy of innovation and guide efforts to effectively tell the combined story of the institution’s sites. Working with the board of trustees, staff, and community stakeholders, the leader will set and communicate a strategic vision that positions the client as an essential community and cultural destination. They will engage broadly with the community and external peers, serve as a persuasive advocate and spokesperson, and cultivate a relational, civically engaged leadership approach.
In addition to organizational leadership and community engagement, the Executive Director is expected to help develop sources of financial support aligned with the client’s strategic ambitions. The role also involves embodying the social expectations associated with leadership in the organization’s community.
