Description

The client is a nationally significant organisation within NHS Wales, providing specialist cancer services for South East Wales alongside critical blood, transplant and diagnostic services for patients and hospitals across Wales. Its work is complex and safety-critical, supported by a highly skilled and committed workforce. The organisation is undergoing a pivotal period of transformation, including development of a new state-of-the-art cancer centre and modernisation of national blood and transplant services.

Following a period of change, the client is seeking to appoint a substantive Executive Director of Workforce and OD to embed transformation and support its workforce of 7,500 to thrive. Reporting to senior leadership, the role will help deliver the organisation’s ten-year strategy focused on high-quality, sustainable, person-centred care, being a beacon for research and innovation, and placing the wellbeing and engagement of its people at the heart of its work. The position is intended to strengthen culture, restore confidence, and help shape the next chapter of the client’s services.

The client is looking for an exceptional, values-driven leader with a strong track record at board level in leading people strategy, organisational development, and large-scale workforce transformation within a tightly regulated, complex environment. The successful candidate will have deep expertise in shaping inclusive cultures, building organisational capability, and delivering sustainable workforce models that support both clinical and operational excellence. With a strong commitment to wellbeing, equality, and continuous improvement, the leader will be visible and collaborative, inspire trust, engage a diverse workforce, and partner effectively with clinicians and system partners to lead through change, build a high-performance learning and innovation culture, and empower people to deliver excellent care.
