The client seeks a collaborative, experienced nonprofit executive to lead as Executive Director of a complex statewide organization with a strong, mission-driven focus on mental health advocacy, education, support, and public awareness. The role will pair respect for lived experience and grassroots leadership with the operational discipline, emotional intelligence, and strategic vision needed to guide staff, affiliates, volunteers, and key partners. The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors.
In the first 18–24 months, the Executive Director will work to build trust and alignment across the Board, staff, affiliates, peer leaders, and volunteers through consistent communication and clear expectations. Success will also include strengthening culture and accountability by clarifying roles and performance expectations, addressing organizational concerns constructively and fairly, and improving internal systems and accountability practices. The role will advance a shared statewide vision by translating organizational priorities into measurable actions that connect state-level advocacy and capacity with affiliate-led community impact, while deepening affiliate partnership through two-way communication, practical support, and recognition of affiliates and volunteers as essential mission delivery partners.
The Executive Director will improve financial resilience by strengthening financial oversight and internal systems and by diversifying revenue through philanthropy and other broadly defined funding sources beyond major public funding. The role is expected to grow organizational influence and reach by expanding credibility, partnerships, membership, volunteer leadership, and advocacy impact across the full statewide footprint. The Executive Director will also serve as a trusted public representative, lead external partnerships and fundraising efforts, and strengthen relationships with national and peer state organizations to identify opportunities for joint learning.
