The client is seeking a passionate, experienced nonprofit youth environmental leader to serve as its next Executive Director. This is a full-time role focused on strategic, operational, financial, revenue-generation, and external leadership to help deliver measurable educational impact while maintaining a sustainable financial model. The position is responsible for advancing a mission that inspires children’s connection to the natural world in ways that support curiosity, learning, and classroom performance.
The Executive Director works closely with The client’s board of directors and leads a team across operations, development, administration and human resources, finance, and program leadership. Core responsibilities include partnering with the board and key stakeholders to create and implement an organization-wide strategic plan with measurable goals and outcomes; sustaining strong board–staff relationships; supporting board recruitment and diversification; and ensuring program quality, evaluation, and student safety by working with program leadership to maintain rigorous, standards-aligned, and school-responsive programming, supported by meaningful measurement across student and operational outcomes.
Externally, the Executive Director leads resource development by partnering with the board and development staff to drive fundraising initiatives and maintain relationships with major donors, institutional and corporate funders, and public-sector partners. The role also involves government funding and public accountability, including maintaining productive, nonpartisan relationships with relevant state agencies, elected officials, and public education partners, and overseeing compliance, reporting, and stewardship related to public appropriations and grants in coordination with development and finance leadership. Additional responsibilities include managing durable school and outdoor site relationships, overseeing finance systems and internal controls, ensuring technology and organizational systems support a distributed and hybrid workforce and field operations, and strengthening risk management and organizational compliance, including youth safety and cybersecurity.
