The client is seeking an Executive Director to provide inspiring leadership and management expertise, supporting its vision to promote, encourage, and share the study of astronomy and geophysics and to help inspire the next generation of scientists. The role is focused on advancing the organisation’s charitable objectives by working closely with elected leaders, its governing body, and staff to drive the Society forward and strengthen engagement with members and the wider community.
The Executive Director will work with the President, Council (Board of Trustees), and approximately 25 members of staff to implement and develop strategy and plans, including the delivery of the Society’s strategy for the 2024–2029 period. The position will enable the President and other elected officers, and support Council, in fulfilling governance responsibilities, while leading continuing modernisation efforts and ensuring an open, transparent, and forward-thinking working culture.
The client is looking for a candidate with a track record of successfully managing an organisation of similar size, along with experience working with a Board of Trustees in a voluntary public or private organisation and the ability to develop a constructive, robust relationship with the Board. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience building and leading effective teams, empowering and motivating staff, and will bring an open, visible, and collaborative leadership style with strong interpersonal skills.
