Description

The client is seeking an Executive Director to lead a place-based nonprofit during a period of transition. The role will build on long-standing community commitment in a historic neighborhood by partnering with the Board, staff, residents, and partners to translate an emerging strategic direction into focused action, measurable impact, and long-term sustainability. This opportunity is for a relationship-centered, entrepreneurial leader who can honor organizational history while bringing clarity and disciplined execution to the future, including a genuine willingness to listen before leading change.

The Executive Director will serve as the lead fundraiser and principal ambassador, providing strategic partnership to the Board and accountable management of people, finances, partnerships, and operations. Key responsibilities include clarifying the organization’s identity and intended impact; translating the strategic plan into measurable priorities, annual work plans, resource decisions, and accountability systems; providing steady leadership through transition while maintaining organizational focus and community trust; and evaluating new opportunities for alignment with mission, capacity, community priorities, and long-term sustainability. The role also includes building a shared culture of philanthropy through donor introductions, cultivation, ambassadorship, and financial support, and representing the organization with credibility to residents, donors, civic leaders, public officials, businesses, and community institutions.

The Executive Director will maintain a consistent, visible presence in the community by building authentic relationships, clarifying the organization’s role as a convener and partner, and managing equitable partnerships with clear responsibility, outcomes, recognition, and accountability. The position will elevate resident voice and lived experience in planning, programming, partnerships, and neighborhood decision-making, and will communicate transparently to recognize contributions from residents and community partners. The role will also guide the organization’s evolving affordable housing and community development strategy, in alignment with its mission and collective vision for rejuvenation, economic stability, healthy living, and educational achievement.
