the client is seeking an Executive Director to lead a nonprofit housing-rights organizing and legal services team committed to combating harassment, displacement, structural injustice, and social disenfranchisement through both affirmative and defensive litigation. the role will help advance a model that combines legal advocacy with community empowerment by partnering closely with tenant associations, community-based organizations, and elected and community leaders to pursue housing justice. responsibilities include supporting efforts to stop predatory landlord and developer conduct, defend individuals and families facing evictions, strengthen low-income tenant co-ops, advocate for community institutions facing closures or adverse actions, advance fair housing litigation, and address neighborhood segregation and displacement.
the client has grown significantly since its founding and serves thousands of households, with a focus on NYC communities, including Brooklyn and Queens. the Executive Director will provide inspirational, long-term leadership and organizational expertise to guide the organization into its next phase of growth and impact. working closely with the board and staff, the Executive Director will develop and execute the next strategic plan in response to evolving community needs, and implement that strategy through strong programmatic, financial, and operational processes.
the Executive Director will partner with the board to diversify and strengthen the organization’s funding base to support program growth. this leader will serve as a primary external presence, developing partnerships, increasing visibility, and building leadership throughout NYC. the role is expected to require experience leading mission-driven organizations, with the ability to manage a dynamic workplace that is rapidly growing in clientele, budget, and staff, while sustaining and growing in a fast-paced environment and maintaining high-quality services to the community and those served.
