the client seeks an Executive Director to lead a mission-driven nonprofit focused on connecting the community to a botanical garden through education, visitor services, events, and member engagement. The role will support programming and fundraising efforts and provide leadership to a team of professionals in partnership with a dedicated board and municipal stakeholders to help shape the next chapter of a beloved community institution.
The Executive Director will lead and supervise a team that includes full-time, part-time, and seasonal staff, with direct oversight of multiple managers and store and education functions, as well as contracted accounting and IT services. In this capacity, the Executive Director is expected to assess and strengthen internal systems and processes to ensure staff are supported and resources are used efficiently, and to serve as a primary ambassador by building and maintaining relationships with donors and funders. The role will also involve ongoing collaboration with city leadership through the designated Garden Director, working with the board chair to professionalize the board through timely and consistent communication, coaching and mentorship, and member recruitment.
Candidates are encouraged to bring diverse backgrounds and are evaluated on demonstrated leadership experience successfully running a nonprofit of similar size and complexity, along with financial acumen including familiarity with P&L statements and budget development, management, and reporting. The Executive Director should be able to lead effectively both externally and internally, and the client will value the ability to engage supporters, guide teams, and advance organizational priorities in alignment with the board and community mission.
