The client is seeking an accomplished physician leader to serve as Division Chief of Hematology Oncology and Medical Director for an academic cancer center affiliated with a university medical center. The role provides strategic, clinical, academic, and operational leadership across the division, the cancer center, and the hematology/oncology service line, with a focus on building a premier multidisciplinary oncology program. The Medical Director is expected to lead and strengthen the integrated cancer enterprise and support a team-oriented, patient-focused model of care.
Key responsibilities include advancing multidisciplinary clinical services across the continuum from pediatric through adult populations, coordinating specialties such as surgical oncology, radiation oncology, palliative care, and additional subspecialties, and fostering a collaborative environment. The position will also support the growth of clinical trials (including Phase I–III), strengthening collaborations with federally supported researchers, cooperative groups, and industry-sponsored trials. In parallel, the role is expected to advance academic scholarship and increase extramural funding, while retaining, recruiting, mentoring, and developing oncology faculty and advising and overseeing the Hematology/Oncology Fellowship Program.
The successful candidate will be an MD or DO who is board certified in Internal Medicine and board certified in Hematology & Oncology (or a related oncology specialty). The role requires at least 5+ years of clinical practice and 2+ years of clinical leadership experience; 5+ years of additional clinical leadership and research experience are preferred, along with demonstrated success in clinical trials, academic scholarship, and extramural funding.
