Description

The client is seeking a Director of Safety, Security & Home Affairs to provide executive-level leadership for a whole-portfolio safety and security function in a close-knit island community. The role leads strategic direction and ensures effective integration, performance, and resilience across a complex system covering policing, immigration and customs, fire and rescue, sea rescue, prison services, emergency planning, and critical national infrastructure.

Working closely with Ministers, senior colleagues, and partner agencies, the Director will strengthen cross-government collaboration, drive service improvement, and help ensure value for money across the portfolio. The role oversees the island’s approach to public safety, border security, and emergency preparedness, managing risk and shaping policy while leading preparedness for major incidents to support a safe, secure, and well-governed community.

The client expects a values-driven leader with a strong track record in senior leadership within safety, security, justice, or related sectors, including experience managing complex operational services and responding to evolving risks. The successful candidate will be skilled at building trusted relationships across communities, partners, and political leadership, and will be resilient, adaptable, and calm under pressure, balancing strategic oversight with hands-on leadership.
