Description

the client is seeking a Director of Transportation to lead and expand its Transportation Department. This role focuses on improving operational performance across trip scheduling, manifest creation, driver utilization, and fleet management, while serving as a professional ambassador who aligns with the organization’s core values. The director will communicate confidently with community members and organizational leaders about transportation services in a credible, knowledgeable, and positive manner.

Responsibilities include overseeing transportation operations and dispatch activities as required, participating in trip acquisition and schedule development, and conducting ongoing reviews of schedules to recommend efficiency improvements. The director will support logistics scheduling and operations by coordinating transportation data collection and reporting, tracking vehicle maintenance and driver certifications, managing monthly billing processes, and assisting with related operational functions. Additional support includes coordinating transportation contracts, providing on-site fiscal guidance for billing and invoices, reviewing invoices for required documentation and approvals, and maintaining vehicle repair and maintenance schedules and procedures.

The director will also support program processes related to eligibility verification, assist with daily operational workflows as needed, and contribute to community outreach by maintaining and developing relationships with community leaders within the agency’s service area. Qualifications include an associate’s degree in a relevant field, with at least 3 years of experience in fiscal operations and/or logistics, and preferred experience in a nonprofit or human services setting plus prior supervisory experience. The role requires strong analytical and problem-solving skills, sound judgment, high organization and attention to detail, effective independent and team collaboration, confidentiality, and strong written and verbal communication, along with proficiency in Microsoft Office (advanced Microsoft Excel expected) and knowledge of the local geographic area and surrounding counties.
