Description

the client invites applications for the role of Director of a coastal marine laboratory campus. The director will lead a distinctive, field-based learning and research environment known for interdisciplinary collaboration across the natural and social sciences, engineering, and policy. This role involves stewarding an academic community that supports undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programs aligned with advancing ocean and coastal stewardship.

the client will guide the next chapter of the marine laboratory in partnership with faculty, staff, and university leadership, providing strategic, operational, and external leadership. Reporting through the client’s academic leadership structure, the director will serve as the campus’s primary ambassador, strengthening internal and external connections. Key priorities include shaping research and academic direction; guiding programming and facilities investment; supporting faculty research as well as student learning and mentorship; and fostering collaboration across campuses and with external partners.

the ideal candidate will bring a strong academic or professional background in marine, coastal, or environmental sciences, along with leadership experience in complex research or field-based settings. They should demonstrate a collaborative, community-centered approach grounded in integrity and sound judgment, and be prepared to provide effective leadership that advances the laboratory’s research, education, and partnerships.
