The Director of Technology is the senior technology leader responsible for defining and delivering The client’s technology strategy across its operations. This role covers enterprise and business systems, stadium and venue technology, football performance technology, and information security across all environments. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer and within the Business Operations team, the director works closely with executive leadership to ensure technology investment is aligned with business outcomes and that the technology estate remains resilient, modern, and capable of supporting elite performance.
The director is accountable for leading strategy and translating business priorities into technology programmes, investment proposals, and delivery roadmaps. As a primary technology advisor to the COO and relevant executive bodies, the role also represents the technology function at executive and board level, including engagement with key stakeholder groups associated with ownership. The director leads and develops a 28-person department organised across five functions: Technology Services, Technology Portfolio, Technology Strategy and Architecture, Technology Business Partnering, and Security, fostering a high-performing culture with clear goals, development pathways, and performance standards.
Key responsibilities include overseeing technology services delivery across all club sites, ensuring service desk, infrastructure, end-user computing, and communications support a 24/7 environment, and maintaining service level standards focused on matchday readiness and operational continuity. The director owns the IT asset lifecycle, governs the technology change portfolio with robust project governance (business case development, benefit realisation, and post-implementation review), and provides executive sponsorship for major programmes across business, commercial, stadium, and football domains. The role also sets technology architecture principles and standards, oversees cloud strategy, drives technology transformation and modernisation of the landscape, and ensures new investments are evaluated for strategic fit and architectural alignment.
