The client is seeking a Director of Student Support Services focused on Guidance. The role is directly supervised by the Assistant Superintendent for Student Support Services and leads a team of professionals responsible for helping youth graduate college- and career-ready, personally prepared, and civically engaged. The director addresses barriers to learning and school success that may affect students academically, physically, socially, emotionally, or behaviorally, and is expected to augment and support district-wide efforts to build positive school culture, climate, and peer interactions.
The director provides leadership and oversight for school counseling services and supports K–12 college and career readiness efforts across all schools, including Early College High School programming. Responsibilities include training and supporting implementation of Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS), coordinating 504 responsibilities (as applicable), and overseeing a comprehensive guidance plan. The director advocates for school counselors and school social workers and collaborates with school leaders and central office staff to ensure counselors have the resources to meet students’ academic, social/personal, and career development needs.
Core functions include ensuring counseling services align with established school counselor standards, providing strategic direction for the Comprehensive Guidance Plan (including monitoring career lesson plan implementation and supporting student success and career plans), and facilitating prevention initiatives with a focus on social-emotional learning. The director leverages resources and partnerships to support school counselors in delivering prevention that strengthens school-wide culture and promotes college and career readiness across grade levels. The role also coordinates with the Student Support Services—Social Worker & Crisis Response function on Student Assistance Program oversight and multi-tiered systems of support, supports professional learning for counselors and social workers, leads onboarding and job-embedded coaching while monitoring PBIS, and reviews and monitors MTSS referral data through school visits to promote prevention and address student barriers.
