Description

The client is seeking a hands-on Director of Structural Engineering and Inspections to help expand and strengthen its engineering and inspection capabilities across Florida. This leadership role will build and develop a high-performing team, establish scalable engineering and inspection practices, and support technology and workflow improvements. The director will remain closely involved in the technical work through plan reviews and field inspections, while providing visibility and strategic input to executive leadership.

Key responsibilities include leading the hiring, onboarding, development, and day-to-day direction of engineers, plan reviewers, and inspection professionals; completing structural plan reviews, code evaluations, and field inspections as workload and project needs require senior technical involvement; and providing engineering oversight for inspection and plan review services. The director will review and approve technical deliverables to support Florida code compliance, translate field and plan review experience into practical improvements for digital inspection tools and internal systems, and develop scalable quality standards, review procedures, and inspection processes that support consistent service as the operation grows. The director will also partner with executive leadership on service expansion, technical strategy, and staffing plans, and serve as a senior technical resource for complex client issues.

Requirements include an active Professional Engineer license in good standing, with a Florida PE license or the ability to secure Florida licensure through reciprocity within 90 days. The role also calls for at least 7 years of progressive structural engineering or building code compliance experience after obtaining PE licensure, including at least 3 years of direct Florida Building Code experience involving residential and commercial plan review and inspection work. Additional qualifications include demonstrated success recruiting, training, and managing engineering and inspection personnel; willingness and ability to remain hands-on by conducting inspections and plan reviews; and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a closely related ABET-accredited engineering discipline. Experience serving as Engineer of Record or in a comparable accountable engineering capacity across multiple projects is preferred, along with strong communication, judgment, organizational skills, and an interest in using technology to improve engineering and inspection operations.
