The client is seeking a Director of Strategic Philanthropy to help secure philanthropic resources that advance an anti-poverty strategic plan and strengthen donor partnerships. The role will provide key leadership in growing private philanthropy and supporting the organization’s long-term vision through donor engagement, major gifts, institutional partnerships, and campaign and event activities. The Director will report to the Chief Development Officer and lead fundraising, partnership development, data management, and supervision of the development team.
Responsibilities include partnering with the Chief Development Officer to develop and implement annual fundraising, engagement, and communications strategies, and executing initiatives across major gifts, institutional giving, multi-year campaigns, and donor stewardship. The Director will build compelling donor engagement approaches, support planning and execution of strategic plan initiatives with prospect management and board engagement, and cultivate, steward, and manage a portfolio of individual donors and prospects, including major donors, donor-advised fund advisors, family foundations, and emerging philanthropists. The role also includes overseeing major appeals, campaigns, and events, working with board members and leadership and program teams to foster a collaborative culture of philanthropy, and providing oversight for volunteer engagement efforts.
The Director will manage donor information systems, including administration and governance of fundraising data, reporting, analytics, and database optimization to support fundraising and engagement goals. The position also requires developing and overseeing strategic stewardship plans with individual and institutional partners and collaborating with the Communications Director to support external communications tied to fundraising campaigns and activities. Qualifications include a bachelor’s degree or five years of related experience, at least five years of progressive fundraising experience with a minimum of three years supervising staff or leading teams, and experience securing and stewarding five- and six-figure gifts. Additional expectations include knowledge of the Bay Area philanthropic landscape, experience in the nonprofit or social service sector, inclusive strength-based people management, and strong interpersonal and presentation skills, with the ability to interact effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
