the client is seeking a Director of State Policy to plan, implement, and advance a multi-state policy agenda focused on reproductive justice and building power for young people. The role will serve as a thought leader and spokesperson, guiding engagement across state legislatures and developing state advocacy campaigns intended to create measurable change in young people’s lives. Core campaign areas include abortion access, defending trans youth, protecting democracy, access to healthcare and comprehensive sex education, and economic justice.
The client’s policy advocacy strategy centers young people’s voices and priorities to advance local, state, and federal policy that supports reproductive justice, gender equity, democracy, and related community priorities. In this role, the director will engage young people on issues of sexual and reproductive health, rights, and justice, and support their advocacy with local, state, and federal decision makers. The policy team works closely with field, communications, and voter engagement functions to leverage political power for both policy and culture change at the state level and nationally.
Candidates should have strong knowledge of and commitment to progressive state policy issues, substantial experience with the state legislative process, and demonstrated experience with lobbying and lobbying strategies. Experience with coalition-building and the ability to supervise a team to achieve goals and advance policy wins are required. The director will coordinate with the Senior Federal Policy & Advocacy Director, work with a three-person team, and collaborate with organizing teams to mobilize on state policy initiatives and represent the client on key state reproductive justice issues.
