Description

The client is seeking a Director of Staff and Community Engagement who will play a key leadership role on a year-round team, combining ownership of technology systems and staff experience with strategic responsibility for program logistics, community partnerships, staff recruitment, and rental/off-season business development. The director will support Jewish community partnerships and non-summer programming while driving a rental growth strategy. This role is based in Pittsburgh and includes maintaining residency at the camp during the summer months from late May through late August.

Responsibilities include leading recruiting, hiring, and onboarding for all seasonal summer staff, rental staff, and head staff, including required onboarding documentation. The director will partner closely with human resources to ensure all documentation, clearances, and hiring processes are completed accurately and on time, and will facilitate onboarding for international staff while managing related compliance requirements. The role also includes collecting and maintaining required paperwork from staff and vendors, tracking staff certifications to support compliance, developing and implementing a staff recruitment plan aligned with rental and family program needs, and supporting staff engagement and retention through off-season events across multiple geographic markets.

The director will develop and implement strategies that support scheduling, workload, communication, staff well-being, and the overall employee experience, serving as a primary liaison to help translate organization-wide people practices into effective approaches for the unique camp environment. Additional responsibilities include building channels for staff feedback, collaborating with the camp leadership team to assess staff needs and prioritize improvements, monitoring the effectiveness of staff support practices throughout the season, and addressing staff concerns such as housing accommodations, time off, complaints, and personal matters. The director will also oversee program logistics by supervising program area supervisors for the summer, coordinating facilities and maintenance for non-summer months to ensure readiness for summer operations, managing daily communication related to cleaning and facilities, organizing pre- and post-camp setup and cleanup, supporting vendor and trip logistics, and overseeing transportation planning for opening/closing days and daily out-of-camp trips.
