Description

As the Director of Public Relations, The client will shape how the organization tells its story to the nation. This newly created role leads editorial and earned media work, supporting visibility and influence across pediatric health, early childhood development, and early literacy. The director will serve as the External Affairs team’s primary editor and a senior writer for the brand, translating complex topics into clear, memorable messaging and working closely with leadership, affiliates, and clinicians.

The client will manage day-to-day relationship with the organization’s public relations firm to build an ambitious earned media strategy. Key responsibilities include leading editorial governance for external communications across social, print, digital, web, email, fundraising, policy, and executive communications, while maintaining voice, tone, clarity, and consistency. The director will develop brand messaging frameworks and thought-leadership content, coach writers and contributors, strengthen editorial workflows and quality control, and advise on crisis or high-risk situations in collaboration with the Chief External Affairs Officer.

Responsibilities also include driving earned media such as press releases, op-eds, story ideas, and media pitches, coordinating state and local coverage by adapting national narratives, and preparing leaders and spokespeople for interviews. The role will develop talking points and briefing materials and guide rapid-response communications in high-stakes or time-sensitive moments, while setting goals and evaluating earned media performance. The client will additionally support social media and integrated content strategy by reviewing and approving content and ensuring alignment across earned, paid, social, and owned channels; the director will serve as a senior communications adviser and help align editorial and reputation strategy with broader brand campaigns.
