The client is seeking to appoint an outstanding Director of Programming & Engagement to lead the development and delivery of its artistic programme and engagement strategy. The role will shape a major new performance venue during its formative stage, embedding the belief that “everything is engagement,” and integrating learning, education, and community initiatives into the programme from the outset. Reporting to the Chief Executive, the Director will work closely with an Artistic Advisory Committee and senior colleagues to develop an ambitious artistic vision and ensure the venue fulfills its commitment to being a welcoming “Hall for All.”
Key responsibilities include building partnerships and networks locally, nationally, and internationally; developing bold collaborations and curated strands; and delivering a diverse programme that balances artistic ambition with commercial sustainability. The Director will ensure the venue’s all-purpose offering supports exceptional live performance across a wide range of genres, while strengthening opportunities for participation and lifelong learning that connect artists, audiences, and communities.
The successful candidate will bring significant senior experience in programming within a performance venue, festival, or concert hall, along with strong musical knowledge. They should have a proven track record of delivering participation and engagement programmes, particularly those supporting young people and emerging talent. The role also requires excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, strong financial acumen, and the ability to build effective relationships with artists, promoters, partners, and stakeholders, with a strong commitment to Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion. Reasonable adjustments are expected to be made throughout the recruitment process in line with applicable equality requirements.
