The client is seeking a senior Director of Production to lead technical and producing aspects of its non-traditional, environmental theatre productions. The role is expected to work closely with the Artistic Director and Executive Director, and to supervise key production and technical roles, including the Technical Director, Technical Specialist, and a Patron Relations Manager. This director-level position will help connect artistic and administrative teams to ensure complex projects are successfully realized, with a focus on safe, comfortable audience experiences in uncommon settings.
Core responsibilities include managing production logistics for planning, building, and running productions, including coordinating artists and crews and overseeing production budgets and reporting. The Director of Production will serve as a primary interface to ensure compliance with performer-related union rules and regulations, lead contracting processes associated with those rules, and work with leadership to identify production locations and coordinate artists and crew, including supporting casting implementation. The role will also pursue cost-effective sourcing and procurement of materials, supervise partnerships with the Technical Director and Technical Specialist to ensure successful technical builds and installations, and ensure productions follow union and other safety requirements, including workplace safety regulations relevant to theatre.
The client also expects leadership in developing culturally informed, respectful workplace practices and providing production and logistical support for special events, as directed with the Executive Director. The Director of Production will be encouraged to support innovative concepts, collaborate on maintaining a positive and productive team environment, and develop an internship program with support from the Technical Director. Qualifications include strong problem-solving skills and a broad range of technical theatre and producing knowledge, along with the ability to communicate effectively, collaborate as a team player, and proactively jump in to troubleshoot and figure things out as productions progress.
