Lead the stewardship and future development of a fast-changing London borough undergoing significant regeneration and growth alongside established town centres and community assets. The role is Director of Planning and Property within the Place Directorate, providing strategic leadership that connects development, place-making, and asset management to wider ambitions for inclusive growth, sustainable development, and excellent public services.
Reporting to the Executive Director, Place, you will lead high-performing professional teams and oversee the management and optimisation of the Council’s property portfolio. You will ensure planning services support delivery of new homes, jobs, infrastructure, and investment, while helping protect and enhance the qualities that make the borough distinctive. You will also balance competing priorities and support decision-making that aims to secure strong outcomes for residents and businesses.
We are looking for an experienced, collaborative senior leader with significant leadership experience across planning, property, regeneration, development, or asset management, and a strong understanding of local government planning and place-based services. You should be able to lead complex programmes, manage organisational change, and deliver high-performing services, with proven ability to build trusted relationships across political leadership, residents, public sector partners, statutory agencies, and the private sector. The role also requires strong commercial awareness, financial management skills, and a commitment to inclusive leadership and collaboration that reflects the needs of diverse communities.
