Description

The client is seeking a senior operations leader to join their team as Director of Operations/Assistant General Manager at their facility in Amherst, Nova Scotia. Reporting into the senior leadership team, this role provides end-to-end leadership for operational performance while contributing to overall business management and strategic execution. The position primarily focuses on translating strategic objectives into disciplined execution across production, engineering, and supply chain functions, supporting delivery against customer commitments in a unionized manufacturing environment.

Key responsibilities include leading the organization’s operational strategy aligned with business goals and the long-term plan; directly leading Production, Engineering, and Purchasing while ensuring effective cross-functional collaboration and accountability; and driving performance excellence across safety, quality, delivery, and cost to meet contractual and customer requirements. The leader will oversee production planning and execution to support program schedules and capacity needs, monitor operational performance using key metrics to identify risks and improvement opportunities, and champion continuous improvement initiatives such as Lean and change management.

The ideal candidate brings significant senior leadership experience in manufacturing or complex operational environments, including demonstrated success leading multi-functional teams in a unionized setting. They should have strong operational and business acumen, with experience spanning production planning, cost management, budgeting, and performance reporting, and be comfortable operating at both strategic and executional levels. This leader will also be responsible for coaching and developing leadership teams, partnering with internal stakeholders, customers, and suppliers to support program execution and operational risk management, and contributing to overall business and financial performance through disciplined cost management and operational decision-making in collaboration with finance and executive leadership.
