Description

The client seeks a Director of Narrative and Strategic Communications to lead its narrative strategy and public communications across its civic engagement work. The role is responsible for strengthening messaging and storytelling that uplift member needs, support coalition building and organizing, and advance a long-term vision focused on transparent, consistent, and accountable systems of government. Working with organizing, development, and leadership teams, the director will develop and execute communications strategies that build power, deepen supporter engagement, and elevate community voices.

The director will oversee narrative strategy and messaging, including crafting and maintaining compelling communications across the organization’s civic and advocacy arms, leading rapid-response messaging during key political moments, and partnering with leadership to shape advocacy strategy on major political issues, proposed legislation, and ballot initiatives. They will provide message discipline and narrative framing guidance for staff and members, draft internal presentations, memos, and strategy briefs summarizing political updates and advocacy priorities, and oversee the creation of the organization’s annual report. This role also includes strategic leadership, rapid response to political news, public representation, and managing staff or consultants as needed.

Responsibilities also include overseeing digital strategy and content, such as managing digital presence, digital fundraising programming, email and text fundraising asks, donor relationship workflows, cross-tagging of supporters for organizing goals, digital analytics to maximize reach and engagement, and creation of multimedia assets and toolkits when not delegated. The director will ensure accessibility and inclusivity across digital platforms, support donor communications and impact storytelling in collaboration with development, and uplift member stories alongside organizing teams. In addition, the director will lead press and public relations by building relationships with media and partners, drafting and approving press materials and op-eds, preparing staff and members for media interviews and public speaking, and representing the client at press events and public forums while coordinating cross-team communications alignment.
