The client is seeking a Director of Literacy to lead the vision, design, and execution of a joyful, rigorous, and equitable literacy program for students from Pre-K through 8th grade. In close partnership with the Chief Academic Officer and school leaders, this role will drive a cohesive, research-based approach to literacy instruction with a focused emphasis on building strong early literacy foundations in grades K–5, ensuring vertical alignment of literacy practices and outcomes across the full grade span.
The Director of Literacy will oversee instructional leadership and staff development by building the capacity of vice principals, teachers, and school staff to implement the literacy program effectively. Responsibilities include facilitating high-impact professional learning (such as unit unpackings, lesson studies, and data analysis meetings), coaching instructional leaders to strengthen literacy instruction and outcomes, and using student progress and performance to guide targeted action plans and instructional adjustments.
The role also includes cultivating a literacy-rich school and family culture through literacy-based events and schoolwide practices that encourage reading and writing. Additionally, the Director of Literacy will manage implementation and reporting aligned to a Comprehensive Literacy State Development Grant, and oversee curriculum partnerships and related instructional materials and resources; qualifications include a bachelor’s degree, with a master’s degree in education or educational leadership preferred, experience as a principal and in charter and/or K–5 or K–8 settings preferred, and familiarity with literacy programs and assessments (such as commonly used literacy frameworks and screening/measurement tools).
