The client is seeking a forward-thinking Director of Intercollegiate Athletics to elevate its intercollegiate athletics program. This role provides strategic leadership, oversight, and direction for the athletics enterprise, including revenue generation, finance management, marketing, capital projects, operations, and compliance, and requires deep experience in athletics administration and sports management. The Director is expected to champion the principles of fair play, character, learning, balance, spirit, and community, working closely with university leadership and key stakeholders.
Reporting directly to the President, the successful candidate will serve as a member of the President’s Cabinet. Responsibilities include developing and implementing athletics policies, procedures, and programs; ensuring compliance with applicable federal, NCAA, conference, and university regulations; managing departmental resources responsibly; and fostering a culture grounded in ethics, sportsmanship, and professionalism. The Director will provide leadership for all athletics department functions, including coaches, staff, and administrators, with a commitment to fairness, consistency, and ethical practices.
Core duties also include leading execution of a long-term athletics unit plan aligned with the university’s strategic direction, supporting competitive success across all sports in alignment with the academic mission, and promoting student-athlete well-being, academic achievement, and personal development. The Director will serve as the external face of the program, building relationships with fans, donors, and corporate leaders to drive revenue generation and athletics fundraising, while also advancing marketing and promotion strategies to enhance the athletics brand and increase attendance at events. Additional responsibilities include strengthening the overall student experience through athletics events in partnership with relevant student-facing university functions, and collaborating on planning, management, and maintenance of athletic facilities.
