Description

the client seeks a Director of Facilities Engineering & Maintenance to provide strategic, university-wide leadership for engineering and maintenance operations across a campus and its satellite locations. Reporting to the Executive Director of Facilities Engineering and working within the Office of the Associate Vice Chancellor, the Director is accountable for the technical, financial, contractual, and performance management dimensions of facilities engineering and maintenance in a complex, decentralized environment. The role includes oversight of a portfolio of facilities spanning multiple buildings and large total square footage.

The Director will lead engineering and maintenance programs supporting critical campus infrastructure, including MEP, life-safety, utilities, and other mission-relevant facilities. Responsibilities include establishing performance expectations and reliability targets, ensuring safe and compliant operations through disciplined maintenance planning, and partnering with capital projects to integrate new assets into ongoing operations and maintenance. The Director also manages and develops a team that includes assistant managers, managers, and technicians, supporting staff accountability and continuous improvement while promoting a culture grounded in collaboration and shared core values.

Key areas of focus include financial stewardship and policy compliance; renewal planning, risk prioritization, and business continuity and emergency management support; and procurement and contract management for engineering and maintenance services. The Director will lead or oversee RFP development and service contract administration, partnering with procurement, finance, legal, and risk stakeholders to support execution, amendments, renewals, and dispute resolution. The role also requires establishing performance metrics and providing regular reporting, and it is expected that the ideal candidate has progressively responsible leadership experience in facilities engineering and maintenance, along with strong communication skills; a Mechanical Engineering License is preferred but not required.
