Description

The Director of Environmental Health & Safety at our client is responsible for designing, developing, and implementing institution-wide EHS strategies, programs, and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. This role involves providing strategic leadership, conducting risk analyses, and continuously evaluating university-wide EHS risks and hazards. The Director oversees various EHS services, including chemical management, occupational safety, and hazardous materials response, and works closely with Risk Management and Human Resources on incident tracking and investigations. Additionally, the Director manages the EHS operating budget, allocates financial resources, and serves as the institutional liaison to federal and state oversight agencies.The Director also provides oversight for the fire safety group, develops emergency response and continuity of operations planning, and assigns management of the hazardous materials response team. This role involves fostering a high-performing, service-oriented culture among EHS staff, collaborating with managers and staff to establish goals and vision, and promoting employee engagement and professional development. The Director also manages safety-related vendors and contracts, oversees procurement and lifecycle management of EHS equipment, and ensures cost-effective delivery of services while maintaining program quality and compliance. Additionally, the Director serves as the institutional liaison to federal and state oversight agencies related to environmental health and safety, ensures accurate and timely regulatory reporting, and communicates with campus stakeholders to provide technical assistance and guidance on EHS matters.
