Description

The client is seeking a Director of Engineering to help ensure timely, cost-effective packaging and contract manufacturing launches and business activities that align with established standards and requirements, while also meeting aesthetic and quality expectations. The role will lead the identification of new and improved methodologies, packaging components, innovation, and processes that support effective cost reduction and harmonized programs for new and existing products.

Responsibilities include leading the development and qualification of primary and secondary packaging solutions to meet customer aesthetics, consumer use, manufacturing capability, quality, and cost. The director will spearhead initiation, development, validation, and implementation of new and improved packages and processes, including prototype development, engineering specifications, mold qualification, functionality work, and quality testing. The role also involves mentoring and leading an engineering team, establishing work plans and staffing, coordinating project information flow, following up on milestones and associated risks, and communicating progress across stakeholders.

The director will interface daily with sales to develop and drive profitable packaging programs, lead packaging innovation efforts by exploring new materials and technology, and collaborate cross-functionally with Brand Marketing, Product Development, Industrial Design, and Operations. Additional duties include developing and maintaining partnerships with third-party vendors, collaborating with customer and design teams on feasibility for new packaging initiatives, supporting cost savings and continuous improvement through quality investigations, managing package component specifications and assembly documentation, overseeing package testing procedures and standards, coordinating line trials for manufacturing performance, validating artwork per technical elements, researching emerging packaging trends and technologies, and attending component and manufacturing startups as needed.
