The client is seeking a Director of Engineering Operations to lead an operations engineering team responsible for technical review and field commissioning for new construction, renovation projects, and significant system upgrades. This role supports advanced troubleshooting for healthcare, teaching, and research facilities and manages the end-to-end engineering operational lifecycle from design review through construction, functional testing, operational handover, and post-project troubleshooting.
The Director ensures building systems—including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, medical gas, fire suppression, and building automation—meet performance specifications and regulatory and operational requirements in a mission-critical academic medical center environment. The role coordinates troubleshooting efforts for equipment and complex systems in collaboration with engineering shop teams, contributes to sustainability initiatives, supports implementation with engineering teams, and participates in campus utility master planning efforts.
Required qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field and extensive experience, including at least 10 years with 7 or more years in a supervisory or managerial capacity. A master’s degree is preferred, and a Professional Engineer (PE) credential is preferred. The Director prepares staffing and budgetary plans, manages resources to achieve department goals, performs standard managerial functions such as scheduling and reporting, and coordinates training and development to support technical capability, retention, and career advancement while partnering closely with engineering design leadership to inform operationally relevant specifications.
