The client is seeking an accomplished, results-driven Director of Development to provide strategic leadership across the organization and its regional teams. This senior role advances and sustains fundraising efforts at local, state, and national levels, with responsibility for strategy, revenue growth, donor engagement, board partnership, and development operations. The director will support development across multiple channels serving a multi-state membership base.
Key responsibilities include creating, leading, and executing a comprehensive fundraising strategy covering major gifts, grants, and partnerships. The director will build and manage an annual development plan with revenue goals, KPIs, timelines, and campaign targets; identify, cultivate, solicit, steward, and retain donors across individual, corporate, foundation, and institutional sources; and oversee fundraising pipelines for annual and planned giving, major gifts, foundation grants, small-dollar donors, and event sponsorships. The role also includes maintaining the CRM system and donor tracking processes, researching grant opportunities, overseeing LOI and proposal development, supporting submissions and compliance materials, maintaining a grants calendar, and ensuring timely reporting and renewals.
The director will partner with executive leadership and the board on major donor engagement and high-value solicitations, and will manage development staff and a fundraising consultant. The ideal candidate is highly organized, self-directed, collaborative, and able to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, evolving environment with minimal supervision. The role typically requires at least 7 to 10 years of fundraising, campaign, and/or program management experience and a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field; experience with issue advocacy nonprofits, public affairs firms, or political campaigns is preferred, with energy-related experience as a plus. Strategic planning and professional development experience are also valued.
