The client seeks a Director of Development for the Northeast Region, with primary focus on New York and the surrounding metropolitan philanthropic ecosystem. The role advances major gift activity to support vulnerable Catholic faith communities in underserved areas, working with donors and foundations to help communities flourish. The Director will join an approximately 20-person Development Department that includes gift officers focused on major giving by geographic region and a gift officer focused on planned giving.
The Director of Development will collaborate with senior administration and Development Department colleagues to strengthen the organization’s presence in the Northeast Region. The role will leverage strong existing relationships in the New York tri-state area while cultivating new donor engagement, with revenue largely coming from donors within about 50 miles of New York City. The Director is expected to be responsive to philanthropic networks relevant to Catholic initiatives and organizations, such as education, arts and culture, science and technology, and other charitable endeavors, and to have knowledge of the Washington, D.C. philanthropic landscape given its demonstrated growth potential.
In addition to serving as a collaborative development leader, the Director must demonstrate entrepreneurism and self-direction to grow major gift activity across the region. The position works with members of the Board of Governors and with local, regional, and national Catholic institutions and partners to leverage networks and devise fundraising strategies and programs. Candidates should be motivated by faith, community, service, and justice, with a strong commitment to the mission and teachings of the Roman Catholic Church, experience communicating the mission effectively, at least eight years of post-college work experience and at least six years of frontline major gifts fundraising experience (including cultivation through closing and stewardship), and demonstrated strategic prospect development skills for significant solicitations; experience managing a fundraising territory for a mid-to-large nonprofit is preferred.
