Description

The client seeks a Director of Communications to lead day-to-day communications operations and advance the organization’s strategic vision through clear, consistent, and high-quality messaging across internal and external channels. Reporting to the Senior Director of Strategic Communications, this role will manage communications workflow, lead editorial planning, direct and develop written content, and help ensure timely execution of communications projects across programs, events, and leadership needs.

The position is expected to lead proactive media relations campaigns and serve as a primary media contact, while also directing social media strategy and supporting executive communications, internal communications, and institutional announcements. The director will develop communications plans aligned to institutional priorities, maintain an organization-wide communications calendar, establish communications protocols and approval processes, and coordinate major announcements and events through strategic planning, message development, media coordination, and cross-functional execution.

In addition, the Director of Communications will lead content and editorial strategy by directing storytelling efforts and maintaining editorial standards, message consistency, and brand voice across channels. Responsibilities include serving as an organizational spokesperson as needed, tracking communications outcomes and media coverage to evaluate effectiveness, and advising departments on communications. Qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, writing, journalism, or a related field (preferred) and at least five years of strategic communications experience in a corporate, government, or large institutional setting, with leadership of complex projects and teams; prior supervisory experience is preferred, and strong written and oral communication skills, sound judgment, attention to detail, responsiveness, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines are essential.
