A senior-level, values-driven communications leader is sought to advance the client’s mission as a catalytic grantmaker, thought partner, and national voice in the housing justice field. The Director of Communications and Narrative Strategy leads the client’s communications and narrative strategy and works with partners to build and communicate a cohesive public narrative about the need for housing justice and economic justice as root drivers of homelessness and housing instability. The role will challenge dominant myths, center lived experience, and elevate proven, equitable solutions.
The ideal candidate brings strong commitment to equity and social justice, with demonstrated leadership in racial equity and a passion for amplifying voices historically marginalized. They are motivated by the opportunity to help build collective action and lasting solutions by connecting day-to-day communications work to broader goals of equity, opportunity, and economic security. They should be able to link historical patterns and narratives to present-day inequities affecting extremely low-income people, particularly Black, Indigenous, and Latino/a/x communities.
The role requires the ability to shape, influence, and advance compelling narratives that shift perceptions and inspire action across diverse constituents, leveraging stories, language, data, and lived experiences to challenge invalid assumptions and build alignment with organizational priorities. The Director will develop forward-looking communications strategies aligned to the client’s mission and objectives, serve as a strategic connector of ideas, and translate strategy into clear guidance for execution. Experience may include leading communications for social change work in mission-driven organizations and working with or managing external agencies and partners to execute campaigns and advocacy communications.
