The client is seeking a Director of Claims with responsibility for strategic leadership, technical direction, and operational oversight of commercial general liability claims. The role leads claims strategy, performance management, technical standards, and operational excellence, while ensuring effective claim outcomes, regulatory compliance, and alignment with organizational objectives.
Key responsibilities include leading the commercial general liability claims function; establishing and implementing claims handling strategies, policies, and procedures; and monitoring claim reserves, settlement authority, and expense controls to support financial performance. The director will oversee relationships with vendors, defense counsel, and third-party administrators, partner cross-functionally with underwriting, actuarial, finance, and risk management teams, and analyze claims data, loss trends, and emerging risks to drive continuous improvement and proactive risk mitigation. The role also involves communicating key claims trends and performance indicators to leadership and internal stakeholders, serving as a liaison to business partners, and preparing and delivering presentations and reports to executive decision-makers.
Qualifications include a bachelor’s degree, with an advanced degree or Juris Doctor strongly preferred. The role requires 10+ years of experience in commercial general liability claims, injury claims, and coverage analysis, along with demonstrated leadership and people management experience. The director should have strong expertise in litigation management, coverage analysis, litigation strategy, complex claims handling, and regulatory compliance, as well as experience using claims analytics to identify trends and implement operational improvement initiatives, with well-developed communication, negotiation, presentation, and decision-making skills.
