The client is seeking an accomplished Director of Client Development for an architecture and engineering organization. This is a highly visible, hands-on leadership role that combines relationship building, technical fluency, and exceptional proposal development to support the organization’s next stage of growth. The director will be expected to understand how A/E work is won, scoped, priced, negotiated, and transitioned into successful delivery.
Key responsibilities include leading the end-to-end pursuit lifecycle from early client engagement through proposal development, negotiation, contract execution, and transition to project delivery. The role will personally shape complex, multidisciplinary proposals in response to RFPs, RFQs, and other client opportunities, and translate client requirements into clear scopes, deliverables, assumptions, exclusions, schedules, staffing plans, and professional fees. The director will also develop commercially sound pricing strategies that incorporate labor projections, consultant costs, reimbursables, contingencies, project risk, and profitability considerations.
The client will also expand and maintain relationships with decision makers across multiple sectors and grow strategic accounts by identifying additional projects and service needs for long-term partnerships. The director will lead client discovery meetings, presentations, pursuit interviews, fee discussions, and commercial negotiations, while coordinating multidisciplinary technical input, maintaining ownership of pursuit strategy and deadlines, and ensuring successful handoff of awarded work. Qualifications include 10+ years of sales experience and 10+ years of relevant architecture, engineering, design services, or closely related professional services experience, with 5+ years of demonstrated business or client development success; an architecture or engineering background is expected, along with the ability to personally develop complex multidisciplinary A/E proposals and evaluate RFPs/RFQs to produce scopes, schedules, and professional fees, plus strong client-facing communication and commercial judgment.
