As Director of City Services, you will play a leading role in shaping the quality of life for residents, businesses, and visitors by addressing how public spaces and city services can be modernised, reshaped, and delivered to support growth. The focus is on stewardship and delivery to ensure the city remains clean, safe, resilient, and welcoming while meeting rising expectations under increasing financial and environmental pressures.
You will lead a diverse portfolio spanning public realm, highways, environmental services, bereavement services, and operational delivery. With responsibility for waste, public realm, and major capital programmes, you will drive improvement, modernise service delivery, and ensure services are responsive and resilient while providing excellent value. You will work across the public, private, and voluntary sectors, building strong partnerships and translating ambition into practical, measurable improvements through collaboration with elected members, communities, and partners.
This role requires both strategic vision and delivery focus, with success assessed by impact achieved rather than plans produced. You should be an experienced leader with a track record of improving service delivery, performance, quality, compliance, and resident outcomes in complex environments, and you will be expected to bring experience of leading organisational change and aligning strategic priorities with operational delivery. You will need a strong understanding of governance, finance, performance management, risk, procurement, and compliance frameworks, along with a commitment to public service leadership values, diversity, and inclusion.
