The client is seeking a Director of Capital Programmes to provide strategic leadership for major capital investment and infrastructure transformation. Reporting to the Portfolio Director of Estates & Facilities, the role will help shape and direct The client-side capital function to ensure a portfolio that aligns with clinical priorities, organisational objectives, sustainability ambitions, and statutory requirements. The Director will collaborate closely with delivery partners and ensure major programmes are developed, governed, and delivered effectively, contributing to estate transformation, sustainability, and digital innovation.
As a senior leadership team member, the Director of Capital Programmes will provide executive oversight across a complex portfolio spanning estates, digital, equipment, and infrastructure investments. Key accountabilities include leading the capital investment strategy and long-term estates transformation agenda; ensuring robust governance, assurance, and risk management for all capital investments; driving commercial excellence, procurement strategy, and value-for-money outcomes; and championing innovation through digital approaches such as BIM and digital twins and data-driven programme management. The role also includes leading the delivery of sustainable, Net Zero-aligned capital programmes.
The client expects an accomplished capital leader with significant senior-level experience leading large-scale estates, capital, or infrastructure programmes within the NHS or similarly complex environments, along with a proven track record of delivering and governing major capital schemes. The role requires extensive knowledge of capital planning, business case development, and governance and assurance frameworks, as well as strong commercial, contractual, and financial management expertise. The successful candidate will demonstrate experience in complex partnership arrangements (including PFI and outsourced delivery models), exceptional stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, a commitment to sustainability and continuous improvement, and the ability to provide credible leadership at Board and Executive level.
