The client is seeking a Director of Business Development to accelerate commercial growth for a specialized advanced materials and manufacturing business. This high-impact role focuses on creating a new customer pipeline from the ground up, building net-new revenue, and establishing repeatable growth through a proactive, hands-on approach. The position offers significant visibility with senior leadership and broad influence across the organization, with potential to grow into a future VP of Sales or broader commercial executive role.
Key responsibilities include selling specialty chemical and material consumables into technically demanding manufacturing environments by translating customer process needs into commercial opportunities. The Director will develop direct relationships with manufacturers, expand a network of independent representatives and channel partners, identify underserved territories and customer segments, and create practical market entry plans. Ownership spans the full opportunity lifecycle, including prospecting and technical discovery, commercial negotiation, closing, and long-term account development, while partnering closely with internal chemistry, applications, operations, and manufacturing teams to align customer requirements with feasible product and production solutions.
The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated track record of building new customers and opening markets, with experience selling chemical or material consumables such as CMP products, slurries, cleaning compounds, semiconductor chemicals, optical consumables, or closely related specialty materials. The role requires strong technical credibility to engage engineers, chemists, and operations leaders, along with high initiative, commercial judgment, and comfort operating across functions and ambiguity. Travel is expected at approximately 75%, including domestic and international trips, and the Director will also bring field intelligence back to internal teams and help shape go-to-market priorities, positioning, lead generation efforts, and commercial programs.
