the client is seeking a highly visible Director of Business Development for North America to guide commercial growth and meet business objectives. This role leads a commercial and business development team while serving as a hands-on player coach, driving strategy and execution to develop an emerging business and expand market presence.
Key responsibilities include developing and leading the North America commercial and business development strategy; building executive relationships with customers, channel partners, suppliers, and strategic partners; defining a compelling value proposition to address unmet customer needs; and collaborating with customers to shape a joint technology roadmap alongside commercial and product development teams. The role oversees the full business development lifecycle from initial customer engagement through bid submission and acquisition, ensuring technical proposals align with customer programs and internal engineering guidelines.
The director will also coordinate system simulations and work with performance and systems teams to verify customer performance targets, gather requirements and conduct gap analysis against standard product offerings, and lead customer technical presentations. Requirements include a bachelor’s degree (mechanical engineering preferred), with advanced education viewed positively; at least 15 years of experience in industrial manufacturing of highly engineered products in commercial or product leadership functions; demonstrated hunter mentality; and experience leading sales engineers and account managers. The role requires a strong technical background, customer-facing experience addressing complex engineering topics such as product/system architecture and gap analysis, an understanding of relevant industry standards and certifications, strong analytical and communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with global stakeholders.
