Description

The client is seeking a Director of Acute Care Services to manage and coordinate the planning, development, implementation, evaluation, and supervision of nursing regimens and related activities that support high-quality patient care. This role leads operations across Medical/Surgical and Intensive Care Units and coordinates with Respiratory Therapy. The director provides both clinical and administrative leadership, maintaining professional nursing practice standards and collaborating with clinical leads, nursing and ancillary staff, physicians, and other care team personnel.

Key responsibilities include ongoing assessment of care delivery and process quality to ensure patient-centered, safe, cost-effective, evidence-based outcomes. The director assigns nursing care based on staff qualifications, experience, and patient needs, and communicates and interprets changes in policy and procedures while providing feedback to nursing leadership. The role also serves as a liaison with other departments to support a seamless continuum of care, participates in patient rounds, confers with the health team to plan total care, and supports patient care issues as a resource.

The director supports staff development through interviewing, recommending hire decisions, assisting with orientation, overseeing orientation documentation, and fostering an environment that supports learning and achievement of unit goals. Additional duties include maintaining nursing mission and philosophy alignment, influencing institutional and departmental policies, setting standards and objectives for continuous patient care coverage, and collaborating on the supervision of clinical experiences for nursing students. The role helps develop and control relevant operating and capital equipment budgets, analyzes patient information to guide interventions for age-related needs, coordinates multidisciplinary ICU committee activities, and promotes continuity of care through coordination among patients, families, physicians, and post-discharge needs, while encouraging health education, rehabilitation, continuing education, and mandatory in-service compliance.
