The client is seeking an accomplished Director of Accounting to strengthen and scale its finance organization in a highly visible, on-site leadership capacity. This role blends technical accounting expertise with hands-on team development, operational improvement, and support for acquisition integration and other strategic growth initiatives. The opportunity is designed for either an experienced accounting leader seeking long-term stability or a high-potential professional ready to expand ownership and take on broader responsibilities.
Responsibilities include directing the monthly accounting cycle by establishing clear ownership for close activities, reconciliations, reviews, and timely resolution of accounting issues. The Director of Accounting will oversee core accounting operations across the general ledger, receivables, payables, fixed assets, inventory, cash activity, and key balance sheet accounts, while serving as the technical accounting leader for US GAAP matters such as revenue recognition, reserves, accruals, capitalization, and other complex, judgment-based areas. The role also involves strengthening financial controls and accounting procedures through risk identification, workflow improvement, and the development of repeatable practices that increase accuracy and efficiency.
Additional duties include coordinating external audit activities and maintaining strong audit readiness, including timely resolution of requests, findings, and follow-up actions, as well as overseeing accounting processes related to organizational growth and integration to ensure consistent procedures and alignment across accounting operations. The Director of Accounting will develop accounting talent through coaching and candid feedback while fostering continuous improvement, and will collaborate with key stakeholders to evaluate financial performance and support resolution of business challenges. Required qualifications include 10+ years of progressive accounting, controllership, or finance experience with significant responsibility for close, controls, audits, reconciliations, accounting operations, and team performance, along with a strong command of US GAAP and manufacturing or project-based accounting experience with cost accounting exposure; hands-on M&A integration experience is required, and a bachelor’s degree in accounting is preferred (other finance degrees may be considered when paired with substantial technical accounting experience). CPA or CMA credentials are valued but not required, and experience improving ERP platforms and accounting systems is beneficial.
