The client is seeking a Director, Engineering Design to lead the engineering design team supporting new construction, renovation, and significant system upgrades, including advanced technical troubleshooting across mission-critical healthcare and academic research facilities. The role oversees design and technical reviews to ensure building systems—such as HVAC, electrical, plumbing, medical gas, fire suppression, and building automation—meet performance specifications and regulatory requirements in a complex academic medical center environment.
The Director will collaborate with Engineering Operations to develop and implement sustainability initiatives aligned with institutional goals, and will prepare staffing and budgetary plans to achieve departmental objectives. Responsibilities include managing engineering specifications for hospital, outpatient, and research environments; leading engineering investigations and design oversight for master plans, feasibility studies, and capital projects; reviewing MEP portions of facilities assessments; coordinating lessons learned and continuous improvements for design and specifications; and producing executive-level reports and presentations to communicate strategic infrastructure status.
The position serves as a bridge between facilities engineering operations, capital projects, compliance, and sustainability efforts, with an emphasis on leadership, training, and employee development through coordinated programs. The Director is expected to provide ongoing engineering leadership on capital projects, support troubleshooting activities, engage with researchers and clinical teams, and contribute to efforts related to accreditation or compliance requirements. This work is performed under minimal supervision of the Vice President, Facilities Planning + Design.
