Description

the client is seeking an experienced ratemaking or reserving actuary to oversee daily operations of the actuarial team, support quarterly and annual reserving analysis, and lead new product launches. This role will typically involve building and guiding actuarial capabilities, contributing to product strategy, and ensuring analysis and reporting are completed on time with high quality. The position also includes serving as a primary point of contact for department of insurance communications related to filings.

Key responsibilities include overseeing actuarial staff and ensuring deliverables meet quality expectations, driving ongoing team development through work experience and exam support, and leading recruiting efforts as staffing needs evolve. The role will support the development of rate indications and proposals for rate committee review across lines of business, including supplemental analysis of competitor rates and regulatory filings. It will also lead development of predictive modeling capabilities and support creation of rating algorithms and endorsement pricing for new product roll-outs, with appropriate prior experience permitting.

The director-level position will manage filing creation and final sign-off, oversee quarter-close activities for analysts responsible for reserve processes (including satisfaction of SOX controls and generation of external reports), and coordinate with accounting to align with close schedules. Additional duties include completing quarterly reserving analysis for select companies and lines, preparing and presenting summary materials to reserve committee as assigned, performing peer review for other actuaries’ reserving-related work, and conducting ad hoc analysis to support finance, claims, underwriting, reinsurance placement data calls, and strategy efforts such as MPCI and Crop Hail. Requirements include 10+ years of property and casualty insurance pricing or reserving experience, a Fellow or Associate designation with the Casualty Actuaries, strong communication skills for non-actuarial audiences, experience leading teams, advanced Microsoft Excel knowledge, and experience with predictive modeling or product design; SQL and one or more programming languages/tools such as R or Python are also expected. Occasional travel may be required depending on location (approximately 10%–15%).
