The client is seeking a relationship-driven Development Director to serve its Boston and Miami communities in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment. In this full-time, exempt role, you will lead frontline fundraising efforts across both markets, managing a portfolio spanning individual donors, foundations, federations, and corporate partners while identifying and securing new philanthropic investment. You will serve as the primary development presence in these two communities, partnering closely with local staff and volunteer lay leaders.
Working as part of a national development team, you will be supported by centralized functions such as grant writing, prospect research, database management, and development operations, allowing you to focus primarily on donor engagement and fundraising. The role collaborates regularly with senior leadership and board members and serves as the primary staff partner to local chairs of The client’s major giving initiative for donors contributing at a defined annual giving level. The position reports to the Senior Director of Development, and it emphasizes strategic planning and stewardship to grow and sustain philanthropic relationships.
Key responsibilities include leading fundraising and revenue generation for both markets by developing and executing local strategies aligned with national priorities, owning annual fundraising goals, and cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding a diversified donor and institutional partner portfolio with an emphasis on individual giving. You will identify and develop new funding opportunities within the local philanthropic communities, actively solicit gifts through one-on-one meetings and proposals, and represent The client at donor and community meetings, events, and convenings across both cities. The client requires candidates to be located in Boston and expects travel approximately once per month, especially to Miami, to cultivate and steward donor relationships.
