The client Deputy Director is a key leadership role partnering closely with the Executive Director to keep programs running at a high level while helping shape organizational strategy. This cross-functional position supports day-to-day internal operations and may involve managing event logistics, coordinating vendors, drafting sponsorship materials, and developing approaches to measure community impact. Over time, the role is intended to grow into a true deputy position with an eventual pathway to broader organizational leadership.
Core responsibilities include supporting organizational strategy by helping identify priorities, pressure-test ideas, and translate vision into actionable plans. The Deputy Director will contribute to building an annual program calendar and longer-term initiatives, provide dependable coverage of internal operations, and take full ownership of planning and executing a diverse programming portfolio. This includes multi-day retreats, intimate regional community dinners, and virtual convenings, with coordination across external vendors, contractors, and event volunteers, along with building and refining systems to measure program outcomes and membership growth.
The Deputy Director cultivates relationships with members across the client’s network, supports engagement between events, and gradually takes on a more visible external representative role for the mission. The position also supports fundraising efforts by collaborating on sponsorship materials and donor communications, maintaining development records in Salesforce or a comparable CRM, and ensuring timely follow-up on the development pipeline. Required qualifications include 5–10 years of relevant professional experience in areas such as program management, nonprofit operations, events, communications/PR, or related work; strong communication skills for senior audiences; demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex projects; proven event planning experience; exceptional organization and execution; self-starting initiative; and strong emotional intelligence, with alignment to increasing diversity in executive leadership and familiarity with East Asian American communities supported as a meaningful fit. A background in fundraising, business development, or partnership-building is a plus, and familiarity with Salesforce and the biopharma/life sciences sector is preferred.
