The client seeks a Deputy Director to help lead a fast-growing, mission-driven nonprofit. The role will partner closely with the Executive Director to translate vision into actionable plans, maintain high-level execution of ongoing programming, and contribute to strategic direction. It is inherently cross-functional, combining operational coverage with external-facing relationship-building and support for fundraising efforts.
The Deputy Director will provide leadership across programs and events, including planning and executing a diverse portfolio such as leadership retreats, regional community dinners, and virtual convenings. The role includes coordinating vendors, contractors, and volunteers to ensure seamless delivery, sustaining consistently high event quality for senior audiences, and building systems to measure program outcomes and community growth. The Deputy Director will also cultivate relationships across The client’s biotech and life sciences network, gradually increase external visibility as a representative of the mission, and find creative ways to keep members engaged between in-person events.
In addition, the Deputy Director will collaborate with the Executive Director on sponsorship materials and donor communications, keep development records current to support timely follow-up, and manage day-to-day operations for a lean organization. Required qualifications include 5–10 years of professional experience in areas such as program management, nonprofit operations, events, communications, PR, or related fields; demonstrated ability to juggle multiple complex projects; strong written and verbal communication skills for C-suite and board-level audiences; hands-on event planning experience; strong organization and follow-through; self-starter energy; and emotional intelligence to create welcoming spaces. The candidate should have deep alignment with the mission to increase diversity in executive leadership and familiarity with or connection to East Asian American representation.
