The client is seeking a Deputy Dean, Rural and Remote Health (NT) to provide senior academic leadership shaping the direction of rural and remote health education, research, and community engagement across the Territory. The role will support a program with national reach and meaningful impact for rural and remote communities, building on an established legacy of addressing the challenges created by vast distances, cultural diversity, and persistent health inequity.
Reporting to the Dean of Education and working closely with the Rural and Remote Health Leadership Team across South Australia and the Northern Territory, the Deputy Dean will lead four interconnected areas: education leadership with operational oversight of rural and remote health education and delivery across medicine, nursing, and allied health; research and innovation by advancing the research agenda in the NT, pursuing competitive funding, and championing innovative workforce development approaches for remote settings; strategic partnerships by developing relationships with NT government, healthcare providers, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, and peer universities to expand education and research impact; and people and culture by leading an inclusive, high-performing team that supports resource planning, performance development, and staff recognition, while contributing to financial sustainability.
As part of the Rural and Remote Health Executive Team, the Deputy Dean will contribute to broader strategic direction for the regional portfolio and help ensure delivery aligns with the client’s Regional, Rural and Remote strategy. The role is suited to a senior academic with a strong national profile in rural and remote health, including a PhD or equivalent qualification, demonstrated research output quality, and a track record of securing nationally competitive funding; deep knowledge of government policy in rural health and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health; experience leading complex, multi-site academic programs; and an ability to operate effectively across government, community, clinical, and academic settings with an understanding of the NT context and its communities.
